TALKING POINTS

VFW, Post 9777 is a non-profit organization that supports Veterans, family members, and our community through a variety of activities and events, in which we attempt to improve the quality of life, mental well-being ,and educate between the Veterans and public. Our organization has been serving Veterans, family members, and our community since 1965. 

 

The programs, activities, and events we host and perform include, but are not limited to:

 

·       Monthly membership meetings the First Monday of every month at 7:00 pm. Dinner at 6:00 pm

·       Hosting Bingo every Friday at 6 pm for the community.

·       Honor Guard services for all Veterans in Fulton County upon request.

·       Flag Ceremonies and Flag education upon request

·       Color guard for Salem Homecoming and Christmas parades, Memorial Day, Veterans Day, Veterans day at the Fair and Pearl Harbor Day.

·       Members of Salem City Council. Conduct bingo on square for homecoming

·       Assist Fulton County Fair Association (Parking, Veterans Day Ceremony, Kids Day and bingo)

·       Promote VFW patriotic youth contests (Patriot Pen, Voice of Democracy, Nick Bacon Scholarships, Art contests, Teacher of the year.)

·       Host Community Fun day at the Post home which include a Car Show, food, Fire Safety, games entertainment. All free to the public.

·       On a case-by-case basis as funding permits, assist Veterans and immediate family members in need with funds to assist with heat, gas, food, and medical expenses.

·       Within the physical limitation of members, provide limited yard work, provide wood to heat homes and perform minor repairs.

·       POW/MIA flag honor yearly at Viola Elementary School.

·       Let various Organizations use facilities free of charge (Spay and Cycle, Republican party, Girl Scouts)

·       Make available post to rent for individuals not associated with VFW

·       Work with County VSO to ensure veterans get benefits. 

·       Memorial Day Service and lunch

·       Work with Salem’s Beta Club

·       Purchased Flag poles for Senior Center, Sports Complex, Court House annex and Viola Cemetery

 

VFW Post 9777 is funded through membership dues, donations and monies raised through Bingo which is open to the public every Friday (weather permitting).
